Plant Whisperers is our blog section where, each month, we interview Pilea lovers and plant enthusiasts all over the world!

Plant Whisperers: Soil Mates

This month we met Ise from @theplantish_mama. She is a lovely mom with three kids and 20+ plants. She has fallen in love with plants just a few months ago, and guess which was her first plant?

Hello Ise!

Tell us a little bit about your journey as a plant lover.

I became a plant lover just this year actually! There was a plant shop near my home and I just wanted to stop by to look at all the pretty plants and I came home with a Pilea and a golden pothos.

I have never been the person who owned any real plants because I thought I would kill them and now I have 26 plants and growing!

The best thing is when you see a plant baby sprouting and it makes you so happy to see that your care and attention are making them grow️.

How do you take care of all of your plants?

I "only" have 26 plants at the moment so it’s not too hard to manage. My 10 year old has been assigned the misting job and she loves it!

I assume that whenever I have more I might have to have an app or a notebook to write down when I need to water which ones.

What's your experience with Pilea Peperomioides?

My Pilea is actually the first plant that I bought when I started my plant collection this year!

It has grown so much I absolutely love it. I have her on my mantel where there is so much bright indirect light, which seems to be the perfect spot since it has just been growing and growing.

I’d definitely recommend having good lighting conditions, a window with a bright view of the sky is perfect!

How's living with plants and kids together?

I have 3 children, 1, 10, and 12 years old.

My 12-year-old son thinks I have too many plants! My 10-year-old daughter loves them and I actually just got her her first baby Pilea this week and she is so excited to start a little collection of her own.

My 15 month old could care less but luckily she just lets them be and never touches them.

Do you ever talk or sing to your plants?

Oh yes, I definitely talk to my plants and I play music to them once in a while!

Do you have any plants on your wish list right now?

So many! At the moment, I’d really love a Black Velvet Alocasia!

Thank you for sharing your story, Ise!
